AKG Acoustics
AKG is a world leader in the manufacturing of high quality microphones for professional and amateur use. I remember the first set of AKG mics I bought (AKG 391Cs). I used to them to tape various jam bands from the audience (audience tapes), and the sound was way better than the crappy Radio Shack mics I used to use. This was back in 1993, when most amateur tapers were just starting to use DAT decks. Together with my old Denon DTR-80p, and an old sonus preamp, I made some pretty nice sounding tapes of the Grateful Dead, Phish, Widespread Panic, and a few other bands. I really didn't dtart playing music until late in 1999, and when my first band "The Disappointments" needed some vocal mics, I decided to try AKG again, and was not disappointed. In fact, I picked up a closeout pair at Musician's Friend for less than $100 total. While my old band has long ceased playing, I still have the AKG mics, and when I feel like belting out some vocals, I fire up my old PA system, turn on the microphones and sing away, longing for those days when The Disappointments ruled the tiny town of Onsted, Michigan.
